Spanish settling-in bureaucracy is a dependency chain nobody explains: you cannot get a bank account without an NIE, you cannot get a rental contract without a bank account, you cannot get a health card without empadronament, and half the steps have deadlines counted from your arrival date. Newcomers learn the order by failing: they show up at Extranjería missing an apostille or a sworn translation, lose a cita previa slot that takes six weeks to get back, and spend evenings piecing together contradictory Facebook and blog advice in a language they don't read. Relocation consultancies solve it for €2,000+ and only for corporate cases; everyone else is on their own.
